An economical CNC controller card for 1, 2, 3 or 4 axis control.
The M401 has almost all of the features of our M64x series controllers except for the feed-back/closed-loop options and the 5th and 6th axis control but at a lower price.
The M401 can be connected to 1, 2, 3 or 4 stepper motor drive cards to control a 1, 2, 3 or 4 axis machine. Despite the simplicity and low price the card has support for connecting jog-buttons and limit-switches to provide full control of a CNC machine. The M401 also has support for attaching an electronic hand-wheel for precise axis control when jogging. The hand-wheel can also be used as a feed-rate override when running programmes.
The M401 will control our STEP1 and STEPHP1 stepper motor drive cards or any 3rd party stepper motor drive card or servo-motor drive card which supports the step&direction control standard. The X641SC - stepper converter board is available to simplify connecting to 3rd-party motor drive cards. The M401 Installation manual can be downloaded here. 3.5A/phase stepper motor drive card
The STEP1(R4) is a bi-polar stepper motor drive card for motors at up to 45 volts at 3.5Amps/phase. The new revision 4 card has lower power dissipation, an increased voltage range and can drive bigger motors than ever before... typically the current setting for a motor wired for bi-polar use is just 60% of the uni-polar current rating or 40% of the bi-polar current rating.
* Bi-polar chopper drive, 12 to 45 Volts, up to 3.5 A/phase
* Step rates up to 20,000 steps/sec.
* Selectable full- and half- step modes or quarter- and octi- micro-stepping modes (200, 400, 800 and 1600 steps per rev with typical 1.8° motors)
* Current settable from 0.25 to 3.5 Amps (16 settings).
* Selectable PLL mode for maximum step rates with micro-stepping outputs (peak PLL step-rate is <2Khz)
* Digital inputs for Enable, Step-clock and Step-direction. Low 'setup' and 'hold' time requirements for Step-clock and Step-direction (<5us)... the values are internally latched
* Compact size. 70x95 mm. mounting area, 45 mm. height inc. heat-sink
Torques quoted are for bi-polar drive.
Other motors with similar voltages and current requirements will also be compatible.
