What is for sale: Tractor pto powered irrigation / sawmill electric motor
It is a great big single phase electric motor on a stand. The motor is so big that you normally can't use one that size with single phase electricity. You can actually RUN it with single phase, but you can't START it with single phase. I guess it takes a lot of electricity to start a big motor like this, but not so much to just keep it going once it is up to speed. The motor is hooked up to a 1000 rpm pto shaft that you hook to a tractor. You use the tractor to get the motor spinning up to speed and then you flip a switch and turn on the single phase current to the motor. Then the electricity continues to run the motor and whatever you have hooked to it. You can then unhook your tractor and just leave it running and take your tractor elsewhere if you need to. It is designed to be used in rural areas that have single phase electricity but not three phase.
The thing was originally built on a trailer with a two inch ball hitch. At some point, the axle and wheels were removed. I did not get them with it. There are four legs that the thing sets on. They are removable and adjustable for height. As stated earlier, the PTO shaft is 1000 rpm sized. I was told that by changing the roller chain and sprockets that the pto turns, you could use it with a 540 rpm pto. I did not get any other gears with it. They look like just simple agricultural roller chain sprockets. There is a overcenter clutch on the sprocket that is driven by the pto. That allows you to stop the rotation of the shaft and unhook the tractor once the electricity takes over the job of turning the motor. I am all thumbs when it comes to electricity! I have no idea what all the stuff you see inside the power box does. I have never used the thing, but it all looks complete and I was told by the conservation agents that it was in use when they surplused it.
There is a plate on the side of the electric motor that reads:
