(Hint: Infrared control of model airplanes for example is not recommended!) Infrared control is an advantage in many applications because it cannot be easily jammed by strong radio signals from nearby transmitters, EMI from computers or noise from other RFI sources. Demonstration: A quick and easy but revealing experiment with the detector is to hook it up to an oscilloscope as shown in the schematic above and point your TV remote at it. You'll see what your TV sees in the 'dark.' Project Idea: Remote Control Repeater for your TV/Stereo control. Basically, you just need to feed the detector output to an Op-Amp or transistor amplifier driving an IR Emitter. Control your stereo around corners without having to place mirrors in strategic positions in the doorway. (You can't see infrared light, but mirrors and reflective surfaces work with infrared just the same as with visible light.) Make a pair of IR walkie-talkies that are immune to scanner eavesdropping.
